Dunne out

Peter Dunne will not be given a seat in next week's TV3 leader's debate. Neither will Jim Anderton. Instead, the debate will be limited to the leaders of the top six parties - National, Labour, NZFirst, the Greens, the Maori Party, and ACT.

I agree with Frogblog: given the miniscule difference in polling between ACT and United Future, TV3 should have either included both, or excluded both, not favoured one over the other. Given limited time and space, decisions have to be made over who should be covered, but they should not be this arbitrary.

However contrived TV3's decision is, Peter Dunne's reponse makes him sound well unbalanced.

it's also worth noting that while TVNZ is not going to use the worm TV3 is going to use a form of it, another reason Dunne must be spitting.

The next time Dunne wants to equate TV3 with Robert Mugabe, I'd recommend he read Reporters Without Borders' eloquent summary of press freedoms in Zimbabwe: "Freedom of the press simply does not exist in Zimbabwe. Everything is under government control, from the licensing of the media and journalists down to the content of articles. Television and radio are a state monopoly. Police and the judiciary ensure that dissenters live in terror or endure the constant battering of a relentless harassment."

And a few seconds with Google will provide graphic evidence of what Mr. Mugabe does to his critics.

Look, I don't agree with Three's decision any more than Idiot, or Frogblog or David Farrar (to name a few bloggers who've discussed this issue) but really... Dunne needs to build a bridge and get over himself.
