Reactions to the Zaoui judgement:
- The Greens call it "a great day for justice";
- The Progressives call it "a victory for procedural fairness, for the rule of law, and for common sense";
- National regurgitates the same press release it issues after every judgement, calling the process "farcical" and saying that it is time for the Inspector-General to rule - which goes to show that Tony Ryall is not at all acquainted with the issue. The Inspector-General cannot rule until the question of the basis of his ruling is resolved; that issue is currently before the Supreme Court, having been appealed by the government.
- New Zealand First, displaying its authoritarian tendencies, calls for the government to legislate to "to close any legal loophole that might free him into our midst". I guess using this "solution" on the Foreshore and Seabed case has gone to their head...
I think the latter illustrates perfectly why we must fight to ensure that Labour does not enter a coalition with New Zealand First after the next election.
