Another political quiz

Chris Lightfoot has done another version of his political survey, which extracts axes from the answers given by survey respondents. The axes for the last version were economic left/right and pragmatic vs idealistic; this one divides people into "hanging / flogging Eurosceptics" vs "rehabilitation internationalists" (the most significant axis), and "free market pro war" vs "socialist anti-war". More information on the survey methodlogy can be found here.

In addition to giving handy cartesian coordinates, it also compares your scores with those of major UK political parties and newspapers, as well as by age and location. Unfortunately, the questions are fairly UK-specific, so I won't be doing a graph of this one.

  1. I'm not sure why being pro-free-market and pro-war should be correlated together. Most of these quizzes don't differentiate between those (like myself and most nominally left-of-centre governments) who believe in managed, regulated markets and those (like Don Brash and most Libertarians) who favour untrammelled capitalism.

But I'm pround that 95% of brits are to the right of me on axis one - execute the fascist fuckwits, that's what I say!

  2. Crime and punishment, internationalism
Your position on this axis is -2.4
You are likely to be slightly internationalist and rehabilitationist.

    Economics, etc
Your position on this axis is 2.3
You are likely to be fairly free-market and pro-war.

Rightio - not an unreasonable assesment

  3. Rich: You'd need to ask some voters to find out why - the axes were extracted from an initial poll as those answers which explained the most variation.

And yes, 95% of brits are likewise to the right of me on the crime / internationalism axis.

It would be nice to see a similar effort done in NZ (it would at least tell us where our political center was), but I don't know enough about poll design to do it.

  4. about 85% I think were to the right of me.. so Im guessing that in terms of internationalism and crime brits are quite a bit to the "right" of NZders.

  5. I'm setting new extremes.

    Crime and punishment, internationalism
Your position on this axis is -7.7
    Economics, etc
Your position on this axis is -3.2

    Compared to the whole population...

    * 0.0% are significantly to your left
    * 0.5% have views about the same as yours
    * 99.5% are significantly to your right

  6. I was told I am BNP because I am very free-market, but this is nonsense because the BNP are slightly left-wing on the economy, it's the Tories that are more free-market.
