It's official

Tony Blair has asked the Queen to dissolve the UK Parliament and called an election for May 5th. Which means we're going to see all parties' fear-generators switch into high gear: the Tories will try and scaremonger about crime and immigration, the LibDems will frighten everybody with Labour's record, and New Labour will try and terrify their supporters with the spectre of a "return" to Thatcherism if they listen to the LibDems (or their consciences). Which is an empty threat, really, since they're already there...

Nick Barlow has started a 2005 UK General Election blog, which will have daily roundups on all the coverage.
