...but does he really think it will change anything? At the end of the day, a Labour government will elect, rather than appoint its cabinet. And I can hardly see Labour MPs deciding to vote for a man who gratuitously insulted them and showed that he has no commitment to the values which Labour is upoosed to stand for.
How does the voting process work? Presumably its designed so that the different factions get represented rather than the dominant faction getting all the cabinet posts?
ReplyDeleteOh come on, surely he had already worked out he was not going to be elected anyway.
ReplyDeleteRich: as I understand it, people tick names on a list of the caucus. But I could be wrong.
ReplyDeleteAs for domination by a single faction, you may have noticed that the "boy's club" tend to be those excluded from Cabinet - though frequently for their own lack of performance or fuck-ups. Tamihere being an excelent example of the latter...
Genius: well, he should have - but ambition tends to blind people. And he's certainly got a far greater (though still tiny) chance from having apologised than if he hadn't.

ReplyDeleteExcept he gained a huge amount of credibility with the public from saying what he though. (well credibility amongst the people who dont already hate him for being sexist and anti-gay) now he is loosing that credibility by backing down.
Its like parachuting out of a plane and spending the whole trip down trying to clime back into the plane. He should stick to what he believes. besides if we the public dont like it it is far better we know these things and elect peopel for how they really are not how some PR crew want us to think they are.
