Browsing the Immigration Act earlier this evening, I was struck by a curious absence from s 7 (which lists who is ineligible for any visa or permit): while those who the Minister "has reason to believe" have participated in terrorism or belong to a terrorist organisation can be excluded from New Zealand, there's no similar clause for those who have participated in crimes against humanity or belonged to the regimes which perpetrated them.
Surely this is something the government should correct?
If one or both of these Iraqis have been personally complicit, then they should be kept here and prosecuted - possibly under the Crimes of Torture Act.
ReplyDeleteIf they were just diplomats, then I can't see a justification why they shouldn't be allowed to visit.
