Exit polling from the UK election suggests that Labour will return to the government benches, but with a much reduced majority; they're expected to lose over a hundred seats. Hopefully it's the right hundred seats, and that those labour MPs who stood up against the war will retain theirs.
Tony Blair's electorate of Sedgefield will report in at 01:15 GMT (or 13:15 NZST). It will be interesting to see how well Reg Keys has done in cutting down Blair's majority. While I'd love to see the unctuous little weasel de-elected, I don't really expect it, and I'd be happy to see a strong anti-war showing.
The other question is the turnout. How low can negative campaigning from the Tories and disgust with Blair drive things? I'm picking a shave above 50%, but I'd dearly love to be wrong.

Where's the turnout story? I've been able to find electorate-by-electorate details, but nothing nationwide.
ReplyDeleteAs for Blair's increased majority, that's the subject of another post. There has indeed been a strong anti-war showing in his electorate - though sadly not enough to unseat him.
