Proof by response

A former intelligence officer in the Philippines claims to have tapes of President Gloria Arroyo conspiring with an electoral official to fix the vote in the 2004 presidential election. Fearing for his life, he has taken refuge in a seminary. Meanwhile, President Arroyo is dismissing the tapes as a forgery.

So, if they're a forgery, why is the army surrounding the building...?

  1. do your research before slamming Gloria - she is a straight leader in a society sitting on years of endemic corruption.

  2. She may very well be. OTOH, it is rather curious that her response to a forgery is to send in the troops. If the tapes are a forgery, then wouldn't a team of defamation lawyers be more appropriate?

  3. Remember how she came to power in the first place:

The opposition wanted the populist, pro-peasant Joseph Estrada out and accused him of corruption (which may have been true) but the senate did not get enough votes for impeachment. The opposition's middle class supporters then engineered a coup with the military that must of had US backing because they sure as hell didn't support Estrada and consequently backed Arroyo. Democracy?!

She said she wouldn't stand in the elections and then she did... why was that? With Strada in jail maybe she wanted to make sure she won.
