The Anti-Capitalist Alliance is standing candidates in eight electorates - including flag-burner Paul Hopkinson in Christchurch East. I'm sure local capitalists are trembling in fear.
Actually we have our very own flag burner right here in Wellington Central too - Stephen Hay. I think Jared might have burnt one or two other flags, but never got arrested for it.
paraphrasing anon, paraphrasing. blair- nothing to worry about, ACA does not have the required 500 financial members to get on the party ballot. nd as far as i am aware they won't be standing a candidate in Epsom.
And it's all part of a plot to steal our 'precious bodily fluids', right Anon?
I would rather the CL/ACA and any other far-left grouping throw their weight in behind a left wing party that has a greater chance of getting votes, instead of flogging a dead horse - in the mind of the regular New Zealander, communism = USSR, Stalin, Mao, gulags, guns and death, plus the far-left's phiolsophical navel gazing really gets to me...Trotsky v Lenin, Lenin v Marx, that sort of thing..
But good luck to them anyway. This is a democracy.
Hamish: Scoop's very purpose is to be an open newsfeed, rather than a gatekeeper. They want people to be able to see the news behind the news, both the original spin (so you can see just how much of it gets copy-pasted into the paper in the morning), and the news that doesn't make it into wider distribution. Which means that anyone who can write a press release can get published there - even communists.
I didn't see them on the front page (I presume you mean the headline section in the centre), but all sorts of stuff shows up there while they're waiting for "real" news. Hell, they've put my ravings there on occasion :)
And I'm with B; I don't think the ACA have a hope in hell, and in an election this close I think they'd advance their ideals more by working to elect a party with a better chance. But this is a democracy, no-one owes anyone else their alliegence, and everyone gets to throw their hat into the ring. I won't be voting for them, but if they can convince other people to, then good luck to them.

I love it how every party on the left claims to be the "one, true party of the left, representing workers blah blah blah..."
ReplyDeleteAs far as I can tell, the ACA haven't made that claim, either on their website or through their press release.
ReplyDeleteI'm terrified they're going to take votes off ACT...

For some reason Scoop thought the communists were important enough to put their press release on their front page.
ReplyDeleteMaybe someone just thought, 'why not, it'll be a laugh'.
Scoop is run by communists
