The UK's civil partnership law comes into force today. Like civil unions, British civil partnerships are "marriage in all but name"; the chief difference is that they are only available to same-sex couples. This sort of "seperate but equal" solution is a long way from perfect (primarily because "seperate but equal" usually isn't) - but its still a vast improvement on the prior situation, and to be welcomed.

The map is a handy reminder on places to avoid for going on holiday or trade with. A death penalty, liberal net access or press freedom maps would serve for similar reasons.
