Ashamed

To the dickheads who vandalised the Lower Hutt Islamic Centre overnight: thankyou for making me ashamed to be a New Zealander. Religious hatred is not what this country is supposed to be about...

  1. If people opened a Nazi centre and that was vandalised would that bother you??

  2. I would say yes....but not because it was vandalised...

  3. It sounds like a lot of local buildings were similarly vandalised, so the mosque may not have been attacked for racial/religious reasons. Not that that would make those attending that mosque feel any better of course.

I hope that the police take a restorative justice approach and make the offender meet the people from the mosque to see what this attack means to them, even if it meant little to the offender.

  4. What have you got to be ashamed about? If you're ashamed about the actions of other people in New Zealand like this, then you also should be ashamed of everyone who bashes their kids.

It's awful though - mindless thugs.

  5. I think its nice that the Nazis and Israelis are now friends, they have so much in common these days.

On days like these, should we debate spray painting swastikas on a Mosque? How about a synagogue?

  7. From anonymous:

"The local Maori kids used to regularly graffiti my front wall and steal anything I left outside (I am white and I moved) did they did it because I was white – who knows but other blacks I knew said that was the reason so perhaps racial hatred is what NZ is about."

They did it because you're arsehole. Nothing to do with your colour.
