In a way, what the Israel Defence Force is doing in Lebanon this past week is really what its been doing in the Lebanon periodically for decades - the only difference now is that its getting mainstream western media coverage because a couple of Israeli soldiers were kidnapped.
Great coverage of the war in Lebanon by TELEVISION NEW ZEALAND's "European correspondent" - Really worth watching - very balanced, very fair and very informed - all from her hotel room in West Jerusalem!!!
I do find that a bit comical, in fact I find it a little comical that they need to have the on site person at all - afterall it is hardly in dispute that they blew up stuff.
TV3 was also pretty bad...the article that they picked up from one of the US networks completly failed to mention the 80 odd dead Lebanese civilians...which I would have thought was pretty newsworthy. The Israeli's occupied Southern Labanon for years and failed to wipe out Hizbollah then...they sure as hell aren't going to do it with this latest attack and every time they take out a civilian target its another successful recruiting drive for the guys who want to drive the Israeli's into the sea.
Indeed - Hizbullah didn't exist when Israel Defence Force first invaded Lebanon (1978), or the second time (1982) when IDF came "to end Palestinian terror"; Hizbullah was really just a reaction to the IDF occupation and it is now electorally almosta as popular as other main party in south Lebanon, Amal; Although Amal still has more seats in parliament than Hizballah - not for much longer, I shouldn't think!

The TVNZ reporter was at a live spot in Jerusalem not her hotel room. I presume she's live in Israel because the Israelis have made it very, very difficult to get into Lebanon. First you need to get into Damascus, then take your chances getting through the border, and dodge Israli tank-busting heleicopters who may or may not decide to turn your unarmoured minivan into a smoking hulk because it may or may not be carrying replacement missiles for Hizbollah.
It is also hideously expensive to insure the reporter and cameraman for Lebanon. You also fail to mention that the live from the reporter followed a 2 minute story that gave a much more expansive and balanced account of the events.

I also thought the fact about the 90 missiles that were fired into Isreal didnt get the coverage it deserved either.
