With US, UK backing of course Israeli government doesn't have to listen to the cries of Lebanese or Palestinian civilians ... but still if Israelis do nothing else they should at least insist their government stop all firing while this matter is sorted: "...Lebanon has appealed for help to clean up a huge oil spill along its coastline created after Israel bombed a power plant. The environment ministry says up to 30,000 tonnes of oil flooded into the sea after Israeli jets attacked storage tanks at the Jiyyeh power plant south of Beirut on July 13 and 15..."
1 Israeli is being held prisoner by Palestinians, while 9,599 Palestinians are currently imprisoned by Israel.
0 Israeli homes have been demolished by Palestinians and 4,170 Palestinian homes have been demolished by Israel since September 29, 2000.
60+ new Jewish-only settlements have been built on confiscated Palestinian land between March 2001 and July 11, 2003. There have been 0 cases of Palestinians confiscating Israeli land and building settlements.
The U.S. gives $15,139,178 per day to the Israeli government and military and $232,290 per day to Palestinian NGO’s.
The total of U.S. grants and loan guarantees to Israel for fiscal 1997 was $5,525,800,000. (that's right, US$5.5 billion a year in funding direct from U.S. taxpayers).
So it is nonsense to say that this is a war between the Israeli government versus Lebanese and Palestinians - it is a war between the United States against Lebanon and Palestinians - the victims are Israelis, Palestinians and Lebanese.
Meron Benvenist, writing in the newspapper Ha'aretz, predicts 'the major losers in this conflict will be the people of Israel' which about sums up how much damage all of this U.S. taxpayer funding is doing to the minds of Israeli liberals....
This is the mentality of a self-pitying co-dependent who can't see that the "major losers" are of course the Lebanese, one-fourth of whom have been turned into refugees, hundreds with physical wounds, thousands with psychological wounds, the economy absolutely in tatters - their airport, seaports, motorways all in ruins - even the main milk processing company in ruins and how many families' businesses and property investments now valueless - it must be almost incalculable.
Politically and culturally Lebanon has been destroyed - the middle class Sunni and Christian exodus in the past ten days has been breath-taking in its completeness -the beneficiary economies being in the Gulf and in Europe.
And as far as Lebanon's politics is concerned, the Shiia have been considerably strengthened at the expense of their Sunni and Druze rivals and the Shiia-Christian alliance strengthened immeasurably, along with the position of the dictatorship in Damascus which supports the Shiia-Christian alliance against the current Lebanese government which had been slowly rebuilding that now destroyed nation.
NEWS ALERT: The Hope Party (A.M.A.L.) is resisting IDF in southern Lebanon and reports six of its fighters dead; The AMAL Party is aligned to the Speaker of Lebanon's parliament.
Does that mean that Ms. Rice, who met with this terrorist party last week, will boycott this week?
WHEN WILL THE U.S. GET TOUGH ON TERROR AND PUT A.M.A.L. on its terror list?
