Ceasefire vigils tonight

Amnesty International have organised a global vigil in support of an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon. Local events will be happening tonight (Monday night) in Aotea Square / Manners mall / Cathedral Square / The Octagon, from 5pm till midnight. Bring candles and warm clothing. Further information (including wet-weather venues) can be found here.

Update: There will also be vigils in Nelson (5pm, cathedral steps), and Palmerston North (5pm, clocktower). Guess I'd better find some candles...

  2. These demonstrations seem rather pointless, given that the only players who actually matter are Israel and Hezbollah. It might help the kids burn-off some energy, make them FEEL as though they've *done something*, but the reality is that they'd have the same impact if they stayed home and watched TV.
