The usual ballot for Member's Bills was held today, and the following bills were drawn:
- Airport Authorities (Sale to the Crown) Amendment Bill (Darren Hughes)
- Liquor Advertising (Television and Radio) Bill (Jeanette Fitzsimons)
Both have previously been covered by an "In the ballot" post.
There were three new bills: Sue Bradford's Injury Prevention, Rehabilitation, and Compensation (Abolition of Vocational Independence Assessments) Amendment Bill, John Key's Auckland Local Government Reform Bill and Pita Paraone's Treaty Of Waitangi (Removal of Conflict of Interest) Amendment Bill. Meanwhile, Judy Turner and Simon Power are still duelling over ballot space for their competing private prisons bills.
I'll have an "In the Ballot" post out later covering Key's bill, and hopefully both new bills from last time.
Go Darren! Save that Paraparaumu Airport.
ReplyDeleteRumours suggest it will have the numbers
The funny thing is, the Paraparaumu Airport falls within the Mana electorate now...
ReplyDeleteAnon: I don't think there's any doubt. The Maori Party will probably support it, as a way of getting Paraparaumu Airport back into crown hands next time it comes up for sale (so that it can finally be returned to its rightful owners), and the Greens certainly will. It fits well with NZ First's general direction as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm not really sure about the other one, but if the drinking age bill got past its first reading, then I expect advertising restrictions to as well.
Lewis - it is currently in the Otaki electorate. It may well be that the boundary redrawing will make it in Mana, but for the 2005 election it was in Otaki
ReplyDeleteReally? Heh, makes sense I suppose. My grandfather lives in a retirement village near to (or maybe even on) the boundary, and was told at the last election that the airport - which is rougly where the boundary is - was part of Mana. The Electoral Comm boundary maps aren't up anywhere to check...
ReplyDeleteLewis - yes they are.

should have what you're looking for (I note that the map does show that a very small bit of the airport is in fact in Mana...
