Very dirty pool

Last night, I was hugged by a member of the same sex. According to Ian Wishart, this apparently means that I am gay.

I'm not sure what's scarier - the fact that there are bigoted panty-sniffing dinosaurs like Wishart still around, or that in its zeal to overturn the results of the last election, the New Zealand right has decided to go after not the Prime Minister, but her politically uninvolved husband. This is very dirty pool indeed, and it makes you wonder what they're going to try next - targeting people's children?

As I've said in the case of Don Brash, I am fundamentally uninterested in politicians' private lives. I do not care who they screw, or how, or how many at once. I am even less interested in the activities of their partners or other family members. They are in no way part of public life, and their privacy deserves to be respected.

Even the Mafia have an understanding barring going after people's families, on the basis that it would make life completely unbearable otherwise. The same should apply in politics. Being part of a politician's family should not mark you out for public victimisation, and those that think otherwise are the lowest type of bottom-feeding scum.

  3. I don't care who they screw either but if you're going to preach about a certain kind of "family values" as part of your political persona but act out the opposite, then people are naturally going to discuss it and judge you on it.

Note Mr Wishart insists that he can back up his delusions of journalism. Excuse me, there's something I must pop off and email to the Prime Minister...

  5. Between Mallard and Wishart we can now - unfortunately - expect to hear more revelations about public figures.

Only if they hug members of the opposite sex!

What _rubbish_ from Wishart. He should get his nose out of other people's personal, private business. This level of gutter press is disgusting. Debate should occur on political issues, not private relationships.

I don't care if Wishart can back up story or not. It's just tease and sleaze tabloid junk.

  7. Ian Wishart- if you can actually credit this because I don't think I can - is now asking on his blog "what allegations" he has made "about Peter Davis?" In previous blogposts (too late Ian: they are in the Google cache now; you can't UNWRITE history, much as you would like to) He has tantalised about the forthcoming issue then allowed - unmoderated, numerous posts about the PD 'affair'= then he tried to "blame it on the PM's office- the spin came from there- now he's blaming the SST- the Spin came from there- etc etc etc. No...folks, Ian Wishart had NOTHING to do with the Peter Davis story hitting the media and he really, really, wants you all to know that. Or his lawyers do. Or something. Hell, Buggered if I know! The entire country just had a collective hallucination , in which Ian compared himself to Bernstein and Woodward, bravely goinf where no man darest o go in search of The Truth. ...among other hilarity.
