Pumpkin time

It's Halloween, the only holiday that I truly celebrate, so I am about to embark on the annual pumpkin ritual. I have everything I need: a pumpkin, a knife, and a vast amount of chocolate; hopefully this year I'll even get some trick or treaters.

Photos may be posted later, depending on whether I can borrow a digital camera.

  1. Ditto. Can't be bothered carving a pumpkin but I have a large bowl of lollies for any kids that come around and later I'm going to turn out the lights, fire up the lava lamp, and watch 'Nosferatu'...

  2. I thought about a pumpkin-carving, but a decent-sized (and preferably orange) pumpkin seems hard to acquire at this time of year in this hemisphere.

  3. I hate the way Halloween is being foisted on us. It's just another excuse for marketing crap we don't need.More American cultural imperialism.

  4. Mikeybill: I actually enjoy it. But possibly its because its really just an excuse to eat chocolate.

I had a grand total of seven trick or treaters last night. A devil, some witches, and some unidentifiable. No-one dressed as Ruth Richardson, though. But I'm not that disappointed - I now have a large bowl of chocolate that I don't have to share.

You don't mark Mother's Day then?

It's entirely possible to celebrate Halloween in style for $10. Hardly the high point of marketing crap.

If it was coming out of the UK (a la Guy Fawkes) would you make the same objections?

That reads just a little sinister.

  7. I find the idea of a kid coming to my house to ask for chocolate a bit disturbing.

but having said that I actually feel pretty good about a neighbour coming to my house for a chat and a cup of tea or whatever. It would be nice if we knew our neighbours more (and maybe halloween helps)....
