Voting until they get it right

Earlier in the year, the New Zealand territory of Tokelau held a referendum, in which they narrowly rejected self-government. Now it looks like we'll be forcing them to vote again next November. What will happen if this produces the same result? Will we force Tokelauans to keep voting until they get it right?

  1. that is how inependance referendums / like referendums on republics and various other issues work.

  2. I saw that. I can't see why they can't just become fully part of NZ if they want to, like the Chatham Islands. They could be joined to an NZ constituency (as the Chathams are to Rongotai).

  3. Where in the article does it say that we're "forcing" them to do anything? I always understood that the Tokelau council supported a second referendum. A majority of the island actually voted in favour, remember.
