Winning hearts and minds

It looks like the Americans are winning hearts and minds again in Afghanistan.

It looks like the usual story: American troops come under attack, and respond in the usual trigger-happy fashion, shooting at anybody or anything around them. As a result, eight people are dead - and a significant portion of the local population are radicalised against them. They couldn't have helped the Taleban more if they'd tried.

  1. In all fairness, how should they have responded. Have you ever considered that suicide bomber (who of course is the innocent party in all this) may have deliberately targeted the convoy in a civilian area - but hey i guesss you wouldnt want to be critical of their tactics as that woudl get in the way of your anti-americanism

  2. good call anon - military discipline is a brand new concept that I/S invented just to perpetuate his rabid anti-Americanism.

  3. American troops have a long history of excessive use of ordanance against civilians, starting with the genocide of Native Americans and continuing to the present day. The My Lai massacre is perhaps the most widely known but you could fill a book with them.
Of course, pointing this out just begs to be acused of 'anti-americanism'

  4. Oh, of course, Anonymous, today’s US troops are “channeling” the spirits of their Indian-massacring ancestors - a direct, causal relationship. Would your troubled mind be eased if there were German, or French, or Spanish, or Greek, or Italian, or Scandinavian troops in Afghanistan? You know, a country without a history of ‘excessive use of ordanance [sic] against civilians’?
