During the election campaign, John Key talked about "closing the wage gap" with Australia. The easiest way of driving this is to regularly increase the minimum wage, pushing up wages across the entire lower end of the labour market. Cabinet was scheduled to consider such an increase today - but at the last minute Key had it pulled it from the agenda. I guess now that the election is won, the lives and incomes of ordinary New Zealanders are simply not a priority for him anymore...
