And while we're on the subject of National MPs who are out of touch, Tony Milne highlights John Key's comments at the South Island Forum on Tuesday night:
There was one line that struck me. John Key (around 2.45 in the video) says "Treasury have unemployment at 8% by the sort of end of next year, the Reserve Bank are 7% and change I think, 7.3% or something".As Tony points out, that "change" is 6,000 people who will lose their jobs and have their lives made that much harder as a result. And Key thinks that deserves flippancy. It shows how much he cares, I guess - and shows that despite his origins, he now thinks it can never happen to him.
