Named

Name suppression for the Auckland supercity candidate accused of electoral fraud has expired after the Court of Appeal refused to take the case. He can now be identified as Labour candidate Daljit Singh. Unfortunately, that naming comes too late for the voters to judge him - the deadline for posting ballots expired on Wednesday. By asking for name suppression and appealing no matter what, he may have succeeded.

Of course, there will almost certainly be an electoral petition - and not just for the local board he was running for. The fraud taints all races in that part of Auckland, including the mayoralty. And if Banks loses narrowly, he will (and should) challenge to make sure he did not lose as a result of it.
