Since being elected to Horizons Regional Council in 2010, former Federated Farmers Tararua President John Barrow has been a critic of the council's enforcement on water quality, alleging bias against farmers and demanding that everyone be treated equally. Horizons seem to have taken him at his word: they're prosecuting him for repeatedly violating water limits, and if convicted he could lose his seat, forcing a by-election.
I'd call that being hoist by his own petard.
