More English dirty tricks

One hundred days until the Scottish independence referendum, and the polls are still narrowing. Former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown has argued that English bullying is driving people to vote for independence, and we have another prime example today, with the revelation that President Obama's recent comments opposing independence were made at the request of the English government:
US President Barack Obama was asked to weigh into the Scottish independence debate by the UK government, according to Sky sources.

[...]

Sky's Niall Paterson, in Edinburgh, said: "I have been speaking with a very senior source in the Scottish government who tells me he recently had a conversation with a similarly senior source within the US administration - very close to President Obama himself - who confirmed that President Obama's remarks on Scottish independence followed a direct request from the UK government.

"More than that, the senior source within the US government claimed that President Obama's remarks represented the minimum that they could say.

And there's confirmation from the Financial Times's foreign affairs commentator.

This isn't really surprising - London has been running a diplomatic dirty tricks campaign against Scotland since 2012. But its just another example of how London seeks to subvert the will of the Scottish people and bully them into subservience. Hopefully it will backfire messily in their faces.
