The Government Administration Committee has reported back on the Official Information Parliamentary Under-Secretaries) Amendment Bill, and recommended unanimously that it be passed. There's a minor amendment around language to ensure it is inclusive and doesn't accidentally limit the scope of the OIA, but there's no question at all that the bill should be passed. And this despite National's vehment opposition to it at first reading.
There are other things ahead of it on the Order paper, but all going well it should pass by September.
The lesson is clear: there is a majority for transparency. Labour and the Greens might want to think about that when considering their future member's bills.
