What is it with the mining industry? Its not enough for them to pillage the earth - they apparently can't even be bothered getting resource consent to do so:
The proponent behind a major mine near the Clutha River had already been undertaking activity in the area without a consent.Council planners have apparently recommended they be denied resource consent because of the impact on the local environment, and have issued them abatement notices. The proposal will go to a hearing, but a Central Otago District Council spokeswoman confirmed activity was already happening near the planned mine without a consent.
