In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the Bush Administration claimed that nobody had anticipated how destructive the storm would be. Like so much else from the Bush Administration, it was a lie:
In dramatic and sometimes agonizing terms, federal disaster officials warned President Bush and his homeland security chief before Hurricane Katrina struck that the storm could breach levees, put lives at risk in New Orleans' Superdome and overwhelm rescuers, according to confidential video footage.Bush didn't ask a single question during the final briefing before Katrina struck on Aug. 29, but he assured soon-to-be-battered state officials: "We are fully prepared."
Which I guess is Texan for "Qu'il mangent de la brioche".
Bush then continued his holiday. It was only days later, when footage of starving disaster victims outside the Superdome was on every TV screen in the world, that he even began to ensure that the people of New Orleans got the help they so desperately needed.
Bush's failure to respond to the warnings he was given and ensure that sufficient resources were in place to cope with the anticipated devastation is a gross failure of leadership, and something he should be held accountable for - if not by the voters, then by history.

ReplyDeletewho cares about history? it doesn't help the people who were starving, and who cares about the voters? the elections are carefully rigged and there's liitle difference between the Democrats and the Republicans anyway. Maybe God will hold him accountable? oh, but that doesn't help the starving people either, whichever way you look at it, someone like George (empty puppet to his advisors) will never be held properly accountable for anything.
