Tui-able

In its report to the UN Committee Against Torture, the US has said that it is "unequivocally opposed to the use and practice of torture" and that "no circumstance whatsoever, including war, the threat of war, internal political stability" can justify its use.

Which is great - except that Bush administration officials (including possibly President Bush himself) have repeatedly authorised the use of techniques considered to be torture by all civilised socities, and the US unequivocally uses torture on terrorist suspects in Guantanamo and elsewhere. And that's without even touching on their dirty habit of extraordinary rendition...

Measured against this background, the US's statement might as well be on billboard advertising beer...
