The Marriage (Gender Clarification) Amendment Bill comes before Parliament today - and according to the Herald, is expected to be voted down. Good riddance. Meanwhile, Tony Milne has a breakdown of the expected numbers here. It's a pleasant surprise to see the Maori Party likely to come out against it (their response to my lobbying was relatively non-commital, promising only to discuss it at the next caucus meeting) - and somewhat depressing to see ACT, the so-called "liberal party", expected to vote in support. I wonder what their excuse will be?
I'll post a voting list as soon as I get hold of one, so we'll know who the guilty are.
NZPA seems finally to have noticed the Attorney-General's declaration that the marriage bill would be discriminatory. However, they don't seem to have noticed yet that it was prepared quite some time ago, and that Cullen is no longer Attorney-General...
