The secret seven strike again

According to Frogblog, a mysterious A4 flyer has appeared in all MP's mailboxes today, calling on them to vote for the Marriage (Gender Clarification) Amendment Bill as

All members of Parliament have a duty before God to uphold the sacred institution of marriage

The flyer is signed by Andrew Simmons, Phil Win, Tim Lough and Doug Watt - who some might recognise as members of the Exclusive Brethren "secret seven" who bankrolled an anonymous smear campaign against the Greens during the election.

I can't think of a better way to undermine any public support for the bill than for the Brethren to speak up for it - except possibly for another Nuremberg rally by Brian Tamaki and friends.

(As for the substance of their argument, I think the Brethren need to get it through their head that we are not a theocracy - and if they want to live in that sort of country, they should move to Iran or Saudi Arabia).

  1. That, and that the rest of us
    know about former Exclusive
    Brethren leader James Taylor
Jnr and his lack of respect
    for the institution of
    heterosexual marriage.

    (see Wikipedia's EB page for
    details).

    Also, the Ontario Consultants
    for Religious Tolerance have
a way cool section on why US
    fundamentalists have a higher
    than normal divorce rate...
