The police have started a criminal investigation into Taito Phillip Field, based on both the Ingram Report and more recent allegations. The Labour Party has responded by placing him on leave.
Field isn't obliged to talk to the police, any more than he was obliged to talk to Dr Ingram; he has a right to silence, and judging by the Ingram Report, he will exercise it vigorously. But I think the police are still better placed to get to the bottom of this matter, and to ensure that any wrongdoing is properly punished.
Meanwhile, I hope the smaller parties are lining up their candidates for a by-election, just in case...

ReplyDeleteYep, Act is ready. We gotta be good for 250 votes there don't you reckon! :)
Well, as Field is now saying he intends to "fully co-operate" with the Police I can only hope that it will be significantly different from his idea of full co-operation with Noel Ingram. I also hope that Mr. Field has been (shall we say) strongly encoraged to exercise his right to silence by not contacting anyone else and attempting to inflence them to exercise their right to silence.
ReplyDeleteIn a way I have enjoyed watching Labour's spin surrounding Field and the pledge card slowly disintegrate under scrutiny. It's like watching the pain on "The Office" building during an episode.
ReplyDeleteI know four former Labour voters who have switched to National because of the dishonesty surrounding the entire Labour Parliamentary Party with these two issues.
