Oppose the Taser

The Wellington branch of the Campaign Against The Taser has organised a public meeting tonight to oppose the upcoming police trial of these weapons. 7pm, at the St John's Conference Centre on the corner of Willis and Dixon streets. Aucklanders have also organsed a protest march for Saturday, leaving from the bottom of Queen St at noon.

While all things being equal, its better for someone to be shot with a taser than a gun, tasers aren't being proposed as a replacement for firearms, but as a supplement to batons and pepper spray. And given the casual sadism displayed by police in the use of the latter, I really don't think they can be trusted with tasers.
