Something to go to in Wellington

Public Address's third Great Blend event is happening in Wellington tonight, with music, a panel on digital democracy (with Chris DiBona of Google, Alastair Thompson of Scoop, and Rob McKinnon of theyworkforyou.co.nz), and Back of the Y (who will be talking about their movie). Somehow, I expect the latter talk to go horribly wrong, and for a flaming angry gorilla on a motorcycle to start chasing people around the venue.

When: Thursday, 8th February, 18:30 - 22:30
Where: The Boatshed, Wellington
How much: Free!

Unfortunately, due to other commitments, I won't be able to be there.

  1. The hell? What's Back of the Y got to do with digital democracy?

  2. Their latest stunt is to set an IQ test requiring voters to finish their posts and use parantheses properly before being allowed to exercise their democratic rights. Naturally, it will all go horribly wrong...

    (All fixed now. D'oh!)

  3. Is that 'theyworkforyou' site affiliated with the UK one or is it a copy? It didn't seem to offer much more than the parliament.nz site. It also got some things a bit wrong eg. select committees don't have 'debates' they have hearings - I know small thing, but for the site to work it needs to have credibility.

  4. It's not affiliated, it's a copy. They got in touch with me a while back about the votes database - supposedly it's going to include all that data too when it's done. I haven't heard anything from them for several months, though, I thought it'd quietly died.

  5. I find looking at members' recent debate contributions rather amusing
