Fiji: saying one thing, doing another

Fiji's military dictator, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama, has declared that the Fijian military "does not condone violence" and promised that all allegations of human rights abuses "will be thoroughly investigated on an independent basis by the Police and the Human Rights Commission." Meanwhile, senior military officers reportedly prevented police from interviewing soldiers implicated in the murder of Sakiusa Rabaka Ligaiviu. So much for a thorough investigation. Instead, the military seems to be saying one thing, doing another, and hoping that nobody notices the obvious contradiction between their words and their actions.
