A self-inflicted wound

Over in the UK, New Labour is doing badly. Third in the polls, publicly abandoned by the Sun (good riddance!), they've been forced to unveil a secret weapon: Tony Blair:

Tony Blair will end his exile from British politics at the next general election to “fight hard for Labour” in its toughest battle for almost 20 years.

Downing Street figures expect the former Prime Minister to be asked to campaign in marginal seats where his appeal to “aspirational voters”, those whom Gordon Brown has struggled to reach, will matter most.

And in the process, he can alienate all the other voters who were glad to see the back of him. Blair isn't a "secret weapon" - he's a self-inflicted wound. With him on their side, Labour can't do anything but lose.

What next? They'll ask George W Bush to campaign for them too?
