According to the Herald, the government is laying the groundwork for a backdown on mining our national parks. We won!
But while we may have saved Schedule 4, they're still keen to dig up the less protected (but still environmentally valuable) parts of the conservation estate. And with plans to introduce joint approval for access agreements to conservation land, that means those decisions will be forced through on the advice of the (thoroughly captured) Crown Minerals, against the advice of DoC.
This needs to be stopped. Conservation land is held in trust for the people of New Zealand, so we can enjoy it in perpetuity. It must be managed in accordance with that goal, not according to the desires of National-donating Aussie mining companies to make a quick buck by looting New Zealand's natural wealth and destroying our environment.
