Greens ahead in Germany

Last month, the German Green party won a stunning victory in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, winning more votes than the Social Democrats and creating Germany's first Green-led state administration. Today, a poll by Stern shows that if elections were held today, they would repeat that result, and Germany would have its first Green chancellor.

The article attributes this to the Fukushima meltdown, but there's a lot going on in German politics at the moment, with the governing coalition gradually sinking under its own incompetence. And the Greens seem to be winning the argument against the unattractive looking SPD. Still, its a long way until the next German election (currently scheduled for September 2013, and difficult to have earlier), and a lot could change before then.
