No referendum on austerity

Well, that was quick. Three days ago, Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou offered his people a referendum on austerity. The markets freaked out (democracy apparently being bad for business), Papandreou's foreign masters jerked the puppet strings, and now the vote has been cancelled and Papandreou looks likely to lose his job tonight, to be replaced by another NeoLiberal stooge. As for the Greek people, they're back where they started, with a government of foreign-backed quislings imposing austerity on them to make them suffer for the sake of rich Greek tax evaders and richer German bankers. That'll go down well.
