Convenient

BBC is reporting that the Syrian Interior Minister - who had previously served as the chief of Syrian intelligence in Lebanon - has committed suicide:

"Interior Minister Brig Gen Ghazi Kanaan committed suicide in his office before noon," the Syrian Arab News Agency reported.

The authorities are carrying out the "necessary investigation" into the incident, Sana reported.

This is convenient for Syria. Kanaan had been questioned by UN investigators over the murder of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri; so far the evidence is pointing towards Syrian intelligence as being responsible. Now they won't have to go through the whole embarassing process of arguing over extradition when the report comes out...
