Here in New Zealand, we're currently fighting an attempt by self-interested and overly precious politicians to prevent people from using parliamentary coverage to satirise, ridicule or denigrate them. But it could be worse: in Tonga, the Parliament has banned all television coverage by the Tongan Broadcasting Corporation to prevent the media from "inflaming the situation". In other words, letting the people see what goes on in Parliament and what the legislature is planning might cause another riot.
I'd suggest that if that is the concern, then Tongan politicians - the majority of whom are unelected or nobles - should look at what they are saying, rather than simply shooting the messenger.
