Blair stopped

A couple of months ago, former UK PM (and war criminal) Tony Blair put his name forward to be Europe's first president, with the backing of French President Nicolas Sarkozy. Now it seems that Sarkozy has changed his mind:

Nicolas Sarkozy has withdrawn his backing of Tony Blair to become the first president of the European Union, senior sources have told the BBC.

The French president is understood to have changed his mind after meeting German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Blair's candidacy is now effectively dead. And now hopefully we can concentrate on hustling him off to The Hague...
