One of the few good things about Palmerston North is the wind farms. From almost anywhere in town, you can look to the east and see their big, white, triple blades turning in the breeze. Today, from the bus, I noticed something different: the small cluster of new towers I've been watching for the last month have sprouted blades, and one of them was spinning. Unlike the rest, though, these ones only had two blades.
Te Rere Hau looks like it is finally generating, producing clean energy with New Zealand made turbines. And unlike Huntly, it actually looks good on a sunny day...

I see the Greater Wellington Regional Council is also considering a 100MW farm at Puketiro (the area of land currently in forestry at the north end of the Moonshine Valley area and east of Battle Hill Forest Park). Too early to know whose turbines might be used.

It certainly adds to the landscape in the Manawatu. Always a pleasure to drive through the gorge and watch the wind turbines around. Looks stunning.
