International Day of Action Against Climate Change

Today is the International Day of Action Against Climate Change, designed to build public awareness ahead of the UNFCCC / Kyoto Protocol COP12/MOP2 meeting in Nairobi. In Wellington, they've been holding a climate change festival [PDF] at the Paramount, including a policy session, talks on how to reduce your carbon footprint, and documentary films. In Auckland, they've been holding a carnival against climate change in Queen St, while in Whangarei, a group of Greenpeace activists has got on top of the problem by climbing the Marsden B power station (they've since been arrested for unlawfully being on a building). Finally, Bomber Bradbury has been broadcasting a pirate radio station, Heatwave FM, both from Marsden B and on the internet, with climate change news and interviews from around the world. They're also collecting signatures for an open letter to the New Zealand Government calling on them to take strong leadership in the Nairobi climate talks. You can sign it here.
