Spinning around suppression

In keeping with its "no apologies" policy, the police are refusing to apologise for their gross abuses during Operation Eight. And in doing so, they've highlighted another problem with suppression: it lets the police tell lies about the case. There is a very significant lie in that press release, and one which casts the police in an even worse light. Unfortunately, the suppression order prevents anyone from calling bullshit. As a result, they get to propagandise, and their lie can get around the world because the truth is legally suppressed.

Fortunately, the suppression order will not last forever. And when it is withdrawn, I'll be revisiting this, hopefully with some OIAs showing that the police deceit was knowing and wilful.
