Equality comes to Uruguay

Uruguay has legalised same-sex marriage, becoming the 12th country in the world to do so. So, they beat us by a week. But hopefully next Wednesday we'll be joining them.

The domino effect

Last week, Argentina legalised same-sex marriage. But the law change hasn't just affected Argentina - now two of its neighbours, Paraguay and Uruguay, are also looking at legislating for marriage equality.

So, when is New Zealand going to catch up? Or are we going to continue to pander to bigotry by denying gays full equality and instead offering them only "separate but equal"?

Uruguay allows same-sex adoption

Uruguay has become the first country in South America to allow same-sex adoptions. Meanwhile, New Zealand lags behind. Isn't it time we reclaimed the banner of "most progressive country in the world" and legislated to end this bigotry?
