It's official: the Tongan civil servants strike is now about democracy. On Friday night, the Tongan government caved and offered the strikers everything they wanted: backdated payrises of 60, 70, or 80 percent, no retaliation, and a suspension of the general salary review. The strikers refused. And on Tuesday, they're marching on the palace.
This could be crunch day, the day when Tonga's corrupt kleptocracy either recognises that their choose do the former.

Radio NZ are reporting that on Tongan TV last night the strike has been called off and settled. ?

Blair: You might still get one - while the strike has been settled, the march is still going ahead, and is being described in other stories as a flashpoint for a revolution.
Though I'd prefer a velvet revolution to one where anyone actually got hurt.
