More on Scott Parkin

Detained American peace activist Scott Parkin has agreed to be deported and will leave Australia tomorrow. His lawyer will continue to challenge the cancellation of his visa. Meanwhile, according to the NZ Immigration Service, there is no evidence that Parkin has a New Zealand visa, and he will not be being sent to New Zealand.

In a nutshell, why I'm going to NZ and not Australia

I'm almost certain Americans don't need a visitor visa for NZ. Most nationalities get a 3 month stamp on entry - Poms get 6 months to allow fo extended sports tours.

I met Scott Parkin while I was in Sydney, and attended the Halliburton protest alongside him. In fact, I also attended the workshop that today's Melbourne newspapers are suggestion caused his arrest, detention and deportation.

I will be blogging on this in detail on Left & Lefter once I arrive back in New Zealand (tomorrow).
