ACT has broken the filibuster on the Royal Society of New Zealand Amendment Bill, clearing the way for debate on Heather Roy's Education (Freedom of Association) Amendment Bill. So, its now a question of whether Labour can filibuster the bill itself. Watching ParliamentTV at the moment, they seem to be making a good show of it, arguing every point of procedure and repeatedly asking that the Speaker be recalled to adjudacate. But its not going to be enough. While they may be able to delay by a day, ACT and National have shown that they are willing to set aside private and local business to get this bill through. Which means it will get its third reading, probably on the 14th.
