A departure

Greg Stephens of NZ Political Comments has decided to call it a day. I'm sorry to see him go; he was one of the best left-wing bloggers, and the longer articles he did made NZPC a bit more than the usual pissing on things to mark them as yours (you can thank Lyndon Hood for that image).

Does blogging achieve anything? I'd like to think so. But one thing to keep in mind is that the aim is not to influence other blogers, but to influence the public. Much of that is done simply by "showing the flag", and making it clear that not everyone is a tax-cutting warmonger - something NZPC did that every day.

As for having a wider influence, it requires getting the memes into the wider public consciousness. Unfortunately, unlike the US we don't have reliable "transmitters" for that - but I think they'll gradually develop over time.
