ACT's new VP

Progblog has emerged from its post-election hibernation with some comments on ACT's rather scary new vice-president - who seems to be even more of an underpant-sniffer than Rodney. Ordinarily, Mr Loudon would be a harmless communist-obsessed kook - except for this bit:

Don Brash has put Rodney Hide on the brilliantly described intelligence 'oversight' committee. Prog Blog has no quarrel with the security services. But imagine what these 'liberals' could do with the security services when they are motivated by such obsessive interest in the political history of New Zealanders.

It doesn't really give much reason for faith in the "oversight" ACT will provide, does it?

I wonder if Trev has seen Good Night and Good Luck? He's certainly acting like he wants to be some kind of Antipodean MacCarthy...

Oh no. It *is* "That* Trev Loudon. I remember him from my ChCh days.

So, with National in bed with the Exclusive Brethren and with ACT now in bed with the Scientology offshoot ZAP... is there still a right-wing party in the country which isn't in bed with some batshit insane cult? (Apart from Labour, that is: they still sometimes try to pretend they are a left-wing party)

Perhaps Trev could get together with Ian Wishart to form a Paranoid Conspiracist Party. They could scare the shit out of each other with stories of all the death threats they've had from shadowy powerful forces. How anyone can take either of them seriously is beyond me.

Good idea. "The Party Against Giant Maori Lesbian Trade Union Solo Mum Deconstructionist Custodial Parent Anti-Belting
Morris Dancing Evolutionist Devils
Waving Large Green Sticks" has a certain ring to it.
